Is your skin feeling the chill? The benefits of natural oils this winter.

Your skin is pretty clever. It maintains a natural level of moisture that acts as a protective barrier. But when it becomes dry, this natural barrier is compromised, allowing the entry of pollutants such as nitrogen and sulphide oxides. This can cause low levels of inflammation, leading to a breakdown in collagen and an acceleration of the aging process. In addition to this, dryness can often give your skin an appearance of being dull and flaky.

Applying oils, however, can prevent this by maintaining hydration in your skin and keeping it from drying it. This acts as a barrier to pollutants, improves the appearance of wrinkles and gives your skin a glow.

There are a number of oils to choose from when protecting your skin. The majority are petroleum based: these are derived from crude oil and, while they do provide a barrier to the skin, don't actively nourish it. We prefer higher quality, natural oils like Macadamia Oil. We love Mac Oil because of its high levels of Omega 3 & 6 and Vitamin E, its low-comedogenic score meaning it doesn't clog your pores. Plus, its properties closely resemble the oils naturally produced by the skin and therefore easily absorbed!

As the humidity levels drop this winter, it's all the more important to protect your skin and keep it hydrated. A touch of Byron Baby Face under makeup in the morning can last you the day, while at night applying Byron Baby Body liberally after the shower leaves you feeling soft and smooth come daylight. :)
